Singapore opens Asia’s first experiential carbon-literacy gallery

Visitors exploring themed climate zones during their visit
It aims to improve public understanding of carbon and its impact.
The Carbon Gallery (TCG), billed as Asia’s first experiential hub dedicated to carbon literacy, officially opened on 10 October in Pasir Ris.
The initiative is led by sustainability advocacy group Terra SG, with major support and funding from the FairPrice Foundation (FPF) and the FairPrice Group (FPG). A portion of the funding comes from the mandated Disposable Carrier Bag Charge.
Located at Vidacity, on the former grounds of Loyang Primary School, TCG integrates education and heritage into its site design.
It aims to improve public understanding of carbon and its impact by connecting it to biodiversity, food systems, and everyday life.
The gallery uses storytelling, interactive technologies, and gamification to engage visitors.
The visitor journey includes three main zones: The Microforest, featuring a small-scale agroforest and mangrove ecosystem to showcase local biodiversity and natural carbon sinks; the Respite Gardens, offering a reflective space with edible and native plants; and the Main Gallery, which houses immersive exhibits exploring how daily choices affect the climate.
Notable exhibits include the Carbon Cart, a mock store where visitors use 60 “carbon coins” to experience the carbon cost of consumption; Eating a Little Better, which addresses food waste; Choose Your 2050, which presents different future climate scenarios; and Power for Change, a web app that generates a personalised sustainability profile with practical lifestyle tips.
